Our Home Education sessions are on Fridays and offer a structured, nature-based learning experience for a mixed-age community of children and their families, combining the freedom and benefits of time in the forest with clear learning objectives and engaging, hands-on activities. Building on the same child-centred approach as our Stay & Play programme, these extended sessions provide an additional hour for deeper exploration, skill development, and collaborative learning, with healthy snacks provided.
In keeping with Forest School principles, which recognise the importance of regular participation, consistency, and the development of long-term relationships with both people and place, our Friday Home Education sessions are booked on a termly basis rather than as individual sessions. This approach allows children the time and continuity needed to build confidence, develop skills, form meaningful connections, and fully benefit from the learning journey. By returning to the same forest environment week after week, children have the opportunity to observe seasonal changes, deepen their understanding, and experience the sense of belonging that sits at the heart of the Forest School ethos.
This upcoming term, we're exploring the wonderful world of maths through the lens of nature. Each week invites children and their grown-ups to discover mathematical ideas through movement, stories, creativity, and forest exploration. From rhythm and number patterns to measuring, shapes, navigation, balance, and trading, children will encounter maths in meaningful, real-world contexts that bring learning to life.

This term in our Home Education sessions, we're exploring the wonderful world of maths through the lens of nature. Each week invites children and their grown ups to discover mathematical ideas through movement, stories, creativity and exploring the forest together.
Every session focuses on a different theme, from rhythm and number patterns to measuring, shapes, navigation, balance and trading. As children climb, build, create and play, they'll begin to see that maths isn't something that only exists in books. It's in the trees we climb, the sticks we collect, the paths we follow and the games we invent. Our aim is for children to leave each session feeling more curious, more confident and excited to see maths in the world around them.
Discover that numbers are far more than symbols on a page as we explore maths through rhythm, drumming, movement and music. Through games, songs and hands-on woodland challenges, we'll uncover patterns, counting and sequences in ways that feel natural, playful and alive.
Step into the world of nature's hidden patterns as we search for spirals, symmetry and shapes woven throughout the forest. Through observation, creative exploration and nature-inspired art, we'll discover how these beautiful designs appear in everything from pinecones and shells to plants and weather.
How tall is a tree? How wide is a stream? How far can we jump? Join us as we estimate, compare and measure the forest using natural materials, simple tools and real-world challenges. Together we'll discover that maths becomes much more meaningful when it's explored through adventure.
Explore the fascinating world of weight, balance and forces through hands-on forest experiments and creative problem solving. Using natural materials, simple machines and playful engineering challenges, we'll discover how balance shapes both the natural world and the things we build.
Become woodland explorers as we learn to navigate using maps, compasses, landmarks and the clues nature provides. Through treasure hunts, map making and navigation games, we'll build confidence in finding our way while discovering the geometry and patterns that help us explore the world.
Bring everything we've learned together as we create our very own forest marketplace. Through trading, teamwork and real life problem solving, we'll practise maths in meaningful ways while making, exchanging and valuing natural resources, ideas and creations within our forest community.
